Absorptions between

Chloroacetone, phenacylbromide, a-bromoisobutyrophenone, 3-bromo-3-methyl-2-butanone, 1 -alkylsulfonyl-3-bromo-2-propanone, and ethyl-y-chloroacetoacetate give with ammonium dithiocarbamate the corresponding 4-hydroxythiazolidine-2-thiones (177), which have a characteristic absorption between 273 and 279 nm. Dehydration by heating with dilute HCl can be followed by ultraviolet spectroscopy because the products formed (175) absorb at 315 to 340 nm. [Pg.270]

Analytical and Test Methods. Most of the analytical and test methods described for THF and PTHF are appHcable to OX and POX with only minor modifications (346). Infrared and nmr are useful aids in the characterization of oxetanes and their polymers. The oxetane ring shows absorption between 960 and 980 cm , regardless of substituents on the ring (282). Dinitro oxetane (DNOX) has its absorption at 1000 cm . In addition, H-nmr chemical shifts for CH2 groups in OX and POX are typically at 4.0—4.8 5 and 3.5—4.7 5, respectively (6,347,348) C-nmr is especially useful for characterizing the microstmcture of polyoxetanes. [Pg.369]

The Apomorphine-derived alkaloid PO-3 (129) was isolated as violet needles after crystallization from acetone and ether from Papaver orientale (66MI2), but was not found in the green solutions of autoxidized apomorhine hydrochloride (62M941, 68HCA683) (Scheme 51). No anion was detected by elemental analysis. The pA"a of PO-3 is 3.88 0.02 in 50% ethanol. The IR spectrum displays no carbonyl absorption between 1650 and 1700 cm (69MI2). The UV absorption maxima of PO-3 are in agreement with the formulation of a mesomeric betaine [T-max (EtOH) = 310... [Pg.113]

The derivatization process (5) is accomplished in aqueous media at basic pH (pH 7-10) in a matter of approximately 15 min to yield a 2-cyanobenz[f]isoindole (CBI), which is stable for 10 to 12 hr in solution. As shown in Figure 1, the absorption characteristics of the CBI adducts are also readily accessible for assay by standard fluorescence or ultraviolet detection. In addition to the absorption between 200 and 300 nm, there are two maxima in the visible spectrum at approximately 420 and 440 nm accessible for fluorescence or ultraviolet detection. A probable mechanism (5,11) for the CBI formation is illustrated in Scheme 1. [Pg.129]

Circular dichroism (c.d.) spectroscopy measures the difference in absorption between left- and right-circularly polarized light by an asymmetric molecule. The spectrum results from the interaction between neighboring groups, and is thus extremely sensitive to the conformation of a molecule. Because the method may be applied to molecules in solution, it has become popular for monitoring the structure of biological molecules as a function of solvent conditions. [Pg.73]

The infrared spectra for various aluminum oxides and hydroxides are shown in Figure 3. Figure 3a is a-alumina (Harshaw A13980), ground to a fine powder with a surface area of 4 m /g. The absorption between 550 and 900 cm is due to two overlapping lattice modes, and the low frequency band at 400 cm is due to another set of lattice vibrations. These results are similar to those obtained by reflection measurements, except that the powder does not show as... [Pg.455]

Since the ketene will copolymerize with cyclopropanone, excess ketene was removed by addition of 3A molecular sieves followed by evacuation at 1 mm Hg for 2-3 hours at -70°C. The amount of ketene was monitored by FTIR analysis. Ketene has a distinct strong absorption between 2130 and 2150 cm-1 (5,6). The solution FTIR spectrum of cyclopropanone in Figure 1 was taken before ketene removal. [Pg.144]

The methylxanthines show useful strong ultraviolet (UV) absorption between 250 and 280 nm.11 The spectra for the methylxanthines are very similar and only when one uses techniques such as derivative spectroscopy can substantial differences be seen. In addition to the UV absorption, the methylxanthines also exhibit strong infrared (IR) spectra which can provide critical information about these compounds. [Pg.15]

In the case of synthetic optically active polymers, the intuitive meaning of a CD signal intensity is very similar to that of UV spectroscopy, with the additional dimension of the subtracted absorption between left and right circularly polarized light.37 Absorption of light obeys the Beer-Lambert law, and thus CD intensity is defined as Ae = eL - eR = (AL - AR)/cl, where Ae is the... [Pg.213]

Banning,43 who synthesized 1,4-naphthalene oligomer using a Grignard coupling reaction with 1,4-dibromonaphthalene as the starting material. The IR spectra of PNT-N prepared in this work all have this absorption at 699 cm-1. Films collected from different VDP reactions always exhibit this specific absorption, between 696-699 cm-1. [Pg.303]

The use of pulse-chase methods identifies differences in the timing and efficiency of absorption between the two pathways, enabling the study of uptake in the endocytosis system [83]. [Pg.382]

Different formulation principles, dosage forms, and DDSs are commonly evaluated in animal models, and attempts are made to predict human absorption on the basis of such studies.80 Human studies are also conducted in some cases to confirm predictions from animal models. Chiou et a 1.81,82 demonstrated that there is a highly significant correlation of absorption (r2 = 0.97) between humans and rats with a slope near unity. In comparison, the correlation of absorption between dog and human was poor (r2 = 0.512) as compared to that between rat and human (r2 = 0.97). Therefore, although dog has been commonly employed as an animal model for studying oral absorption in drug discovery and development, one may need to exercise caution in the interpretation of data obtained. [Pg.33]
