Figure 6.2 shows typically how a varies with r da/dr is usually positive and, unlike d/r/dr in Figure 6.1, varies little with r. For this reason vibrational Raman intensities are less sensitive than are infrared intensities to the environment of the molecule, such as the solvent in a solution specttum. [Pg.141]

Induction furnaces utilize the phenomena of electromagnetic induction to produce an electric current in the load or workpiece. This current is a result of a varying magnetic field created by an alternating current in a cod that typically surrounds the workpiece. Power to heat the load results from the passage of the electric current through the resistance of the load. Physical contact between the electric system and the material to be heated is not essential and is usually avoided. Nonconducting materials cannot be heated directiy by induction fields. [Pg.126]

A hst of polyol producers is shown in Table 6. Each producer has a varied line of PPO and EOPO copolymers for polyurethane use. Polyols are usually produced in a semibatch mode in stainless steel autoclaves using basic catalysis. Autoclaves in use range from one gallon (3.785 L) size in research faciUties to 20,000 gallon (75.7 m ) commercial vessels. In semibatch operation, starter and catalyst are charged to the reactor and the water formed is removed under vacuum. Sometimes an intermediate is made and stored because a 30—100 dilution of starter with PO would require an extraordinary reactor to provide adequate stirring. PO and/or EO are added continuously until the desired OH No. is reached the reaction is stopped and the catalyst is removed. A uniform addition rate and temperature profile is required to keep unsaturation the same from batch to batch. The KOH catalyst can be removed by absorbent treatment (140), extraction into water (141), neutralization and/or crystallization of the salt (142—147), and ion exchange (148—150). [Pg.353]

One indicator of business in the plating industry is anode sales to electroplaters however, anode costs ate only a varying portion of the prices used by electroplating shops, because no standard pricing practice seems to exist. The total value of the plating industry is estimated to be in the area of several biUion doUars. Job shop plating sales could be about a biUion doUars. [Pg.143]

In an industry there may be many drives that may not be required to operate at their optimum capacity at all times. The process requirement may require a varying utilization of the capticity of the drive at different times. In an induction motor, which is a constant speed prime-mover, such a variation is conventionally achieved by throttling the How valves or by employing dampers. [Pg.135]

They may inherit current chopping tendencies at very low currents of 3-5 A, varying from one manufacturer to another and depending upon the contact material used. This is due to their extremely fast operation as a result of a high vacuum pressure of the order of 10 Torr (1.333 x 10 N/nr) or more (one Torr being the pressure equivalent to hold a column of mercury... [Pg.644]

The factor a varies considerably with individual alloys and is also dependent on the application conditions. It varies between wide limits from about 0.98 for zinc to below 0.5 for magnesium anodes. The a values given in Tables 6-1 to 6-4 apply to cold seawater. Deviations in application (i.e., cooling water) temperature and loading can lead to considerable changes. [Pg.182]

There is also another limitation of controllers that is often overlooked. A controller must be given only its one Job to do, not several. For example, a level controller might be designed to deliver feed to a process having a varying demand. A boiler level controller is such an example. This controller can be designed... [Pg.291]

Pa, would deform appreciably under the action of loads comparable to the pull-off force given by Eq. 16. It is for this reason that the JKR type measurements are usually done on soft elastic materials such as crosslinked PI rubber [45,46] or crosslinked PDMS [42-44,47-50]. However glassy polymers such as polystyrene (PS) and PMMA are relatively hard, with bulk moduli of the order of 10 Pa. It can be seen from Eq. 11 that a varies as Thus, increasing K a factor of... [Pg.106]

Volatile organic compounds (VOC) A varied group of pollutants that are liberated from certain synthetic building materials and fabrics. They are assumed to be responsible for some of the aspects of sick building syndrome. [Pg.1486]

For both odd- and even-layered special cross-ply laminates, the extensional stiffnesses, Aj., are independent of N, the number of layers (although the N individual lamina thickneWs can be summed to get the total laminate thickness t, so N is implicit im quations (4.78) and (4.82)). However, A., and A22 depend on M, the cross-ply ratio, and on F, the lamina stiffness ratio, as shown in Figures 4-22 and 4-23. For a typical glass-fiber-reinforced lamina, F =. 3, so A, varies from. 65Q.nt to... [Pg.226]
