A Nine-Step Individual or Group Process

The National Institute for Engineering Ethics at Texas Tech University (2011) provides useful guidelines. The nine-step process, more formally called. Guidelines for Facilitating Solutions to Ethical Dilemmas in Professional Practice, is quoted here, except for parenthetic comments  [Pg.371]

Determine the facts in the situation—obtain all of the unbiased facts possible [Pg.371]

Define the stakeholders—those with a vested interest in the outcome [Pg.371]

Assess the motivations of the stakeholders—using effective communication techniques and personality assessment [Pg.371]

Evaluate proposed alternatives—short-list ethical solutions only may be a potential choice between/among two or more totally ethical solutions (In evaluating alternatives, possibly apply some of the evaluation tools discussed in Chapter 7 such as multi voting and SWOT) [Pg.372]
