A Nine-Step Individual or Group Process

The National Institute for Engineering Ethics at Texas Tech University (2011) provides useful guidelines. The nine-step process, more formally called. Guidelines for Facilitating Solutions to Ethical Dilemmas in Professional Practice, is quoted here, except for parenthetic comments  

Determine the facts in the situation—obtain all of the unbiased facts possible 

Define the stakeholders—those with a vested interest in the outcome 

Assess the motivations of the stakeholders—using effective communication techniques and personality assessment 

Evaluate proposed alternatives—short-list ethical solutions only may be a potential choice between/among two or more totally ethical solutions (In evaluating alternatives, possibly apply some of the evaluation tools discussed in Chapter 7 such as multi voting and SWOT)
