The Moura group propose the formation of a stable cyano-bridged diiron derivative following ferricyanide oxidation of the superoxide reductases (SORs) from Treponema pallidum and from Desulfovibrio vulgaris.10 Spectroscopic evidence for a ferrocyanide adduct with the bridge (SOR)Fe-NsC-Fen(CN)5 came from mass and IR measurements, where the Fe co-ordination is made up of four equatorial histidine N atoms and an axial cysteinyl S atom, and it is proposed... [Pg.388]

Here we report the efficient spectral sensitization of Ti02 by surface derivatization with a series of transition metal cyanides. The sensitization of Ti02 when treated with a ferrocyanide solution is described in a recent publication from this laboratory (Vrachnou E., Vlachopoulos N., and Gratzel M., 1987). There is evidence that the active species formed on the surface is a titanium analogue of Prussian blue. [Pg.58]

The pigments Prussian blue and TurnbulFs blue are made by addition of ferrous ion to a ferricyanide solution or ferric ion to a ferrocyanide solution. The pigments which precipitate have the approximate composition KFeFe(CN)g HoO. They have a brilliant blue color. Ferrous ion and ferrocyanide ion produce a white precipitate of KoFeFe(CN)6, whereas ferric ion and ferricyanide ion do not form a precipitate, but only a brown solution,... [Pg.543]

The iron compounds have been known for several centuries and valued as pigments. The name Prussian (Berlin) blue is given to the compound formed from a solution of a ferric salt and a ferrocyanide, while that obtained from a ferrous salt and a ferricyanide has been known as Turnbull s blue. It appears from Mbssbauer studies that both of these compounds are (hydrated) Fe4 [Pe (CN)6]3. with high-spin Fe and low-spin Fe in the ratio 4 3. There is also a soluble Prussian blue with the composition KFe[Fe(CN)6] which is also a ferrocyanide. Most, if not all, of the compounds we are discussing are hydrated we consider the water of hydration later. [Pg.754]

Eqi) Filter off the precipitate, test the filtrate for a ferrocyanide and determine if the precipitate is lead dioxide, PbCh. Add hydrochloric acid to a little of the substance and heat. (Eq.)... [Pg.97]

It is always prepared by the decomposition of a cyanid or a ferrocyanid. Usually by acting upon potassium ferrocyanid with dilute sulfuric acid, and distilling. Its preparation in the pure form is an operation attended with the most serious danger, and should only be attempted by those well trained in chemical manipulation. For medical uses a very dilute acid is required the acid hydrocyanicum dil. (U. S., Br.) contains, if freshly and properly prepared, two per cent, of anhydrous acid. That of the French Codex is much stronger—ten per cent. [Pg.291]

Notes on the addition reactions of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is an odd molecule, with an odd number of electrons. Probably because of this fact it is unusually active in forming coordination compounds. Examples of such coordination compounds and complex ions are (FeNO)++, [Co(NH3)6NO]++, CuNOCls-, FeNOCls, AINOCI3, Fe(CN)BNO", and the nitrosyl carbonyls, such as Co(CO)3NO. Many of these complexes are unstable and decompose on heating. They appear to be formed by the donation of either one or three electrons from the NO molecule thus in the nitroprusside ion, Fe(CN)5NO , produced by the action of nitric acid on a ferrocyanide, the nitric oxide is considered to contribute three electrons to the iron atom, leaving the latter in the ferrous rather than the ferric condition. Likewise the existence... [Pg.122]

Incorporation of iron cyanides into LDH material requires a certain degree of precaution as well (84). LDH materials containing magnesium, when exposed to a ferrocyanide solution for an extended period of time, form the cubic material +MgFe(CN)6, where or NILj, by altering the LDH composition... [Pg.392]

In contrast, the high background at glassy carbon microelectrodes did not allow well defined voltammograms to be observed at low analyte concentrations. For example, for a ferrocyanide concentration of 200 nM, the increment in the current due to the analyte was only 25% of the background current, whereas for the BDD microelectrode of similar radius, the corresponding value was -200%. [Pg.403]
