A complex response to NO in human cells

The response of human fibroblasts to low levels of NO expectedly did not include changes in the expression of the mitochondrial Mn-containing superoxide dis-mutase, which has been frequently reported as an oxidative stress-inducible fimc-tion. We also foimd no induction of that enzyme or its mRNA in HeLa cells or in murine motor neurons (see below) exposed to subtoxic levels of NO under our conditions. However, the mRNA encoding the tyrosine phosphatase CLlOO/MKP-1 of MAP kinase pathways was strongly, but transiently, induced in NO-exposed IMR-90 cells [35]. [Pg.181]
