Yttrium-aluminum-gamet

Neodymium yttrium-aluminum-gamet (Nd YAG) laser. Capable of penetrating tissue more deeply than other lasers, the Nd YAG makes blood clot quickly and can enable surgeons to see and work on parts of the body that could otherwise be reached only through open (invasive) surgery. 

The excitation light can be provided by a mode-locked (50-100 psec) or Q-switched (several nanoseconds) frequency-doubled Nd-YAG (neo-dymium-yttrium-aluminum-gamet) laser (532 nm) or a dye laser pumped by one of these, providing pulses of less intensity at longer wavelengths.

Room-temperature UV lasing from directionally grown ZnO nanorods was first reported by P.D. Yang s group at the University of Berkeley, with a threshold power density below 100 kW cm [8].
