Work on fragile roofs

Fragile materials must be identified before work begins. Where identified, a risk assessment must be carried out in order to provide a safe system of work which complies vdth the guidance in HSG 33, and which takes into account the nature of the work, access/egress and the need for protection of the area below. [Pg.228]

Suitable means of access, such as roof ladders, crawling boards, scaffolding and staging must be provided. [Pg.228]

Where access is possible alongside fragile materials such as roof lights, covers will be needed or the fragile material will have to be fenced off. [Pg.228]

Barriers and signs must be provided so as to isolate the area below fragile materials while work is in progress. [Pg.228]
