With Bromine, with Iodine, or with Sulfuryl Chloride 

Alkyl groups from alkyl aryl telluriums that have a stabilizing nitrogen functionality in the aromatic ring in an ortho-position to the tellurium atom are cleaved by bromine, iodine or sulfurylchloride. Aryl tellurium halides or trihalides are produced in these reactions. 

However, when oc,co-bis[4-ethoxyphenyltelluro]alkanes were treated with excess bromine in carbon tetrachloride at 20 for three days, the Te-phenyl bonds were cleaved.
