Winifred Beilby Mrs. Soddy

An example of an untrained spouse performing laboratory work is provided by Winifred Moller Beilby,12 spouse of Frederick Soddy (see Chap. 7). Bom on 1 March 1885 in Edinburgh, Scotland, she was the only daughter of George Thomas Beilby, an industrial chemist. When she was 14 years old, the family moved to Glasgow, where she was educated at home by a governess. [Pg.423]

Beilby became interested in Soddy s work and helped him considerably, her research on gamma rays emitted by radioactive atoms being published in 1910. Soddy himself commented She did quite a bit of work for me at Glasgow. You can read it [Pg.423]
