Who Should Conduct the Audit

Formal audits should be conducted by an individual trained in safety and health or completed by a certified safety professional (CSP). If an organization has a limited number of sites, one individual should be the designated auditor. The program elements can be evaluated much easier by someone using identical measures for all sites. Where possible, additional audit team members should be used. Also, employees should participate where possible in the audit process. 

The intent of the chapter was not to offer an inspection process for every facet of a warehouse safety and health program. Within this book there are inspection forms for ergonomics, fire, new employee orientation programs, lockout/ tagout, and racking. This chapter focused on three specific inspecting and auditing processes. 

Operators, inspect yourwalkie or rider pallet jacks at the start of each shift. If any problems are discovered, notify your supervisor. Never operate a vehicle that is not safe  

Facility inspections are very important in the workplace. Forms should be designed specifically for a location, department, or facility. A wide variety of items requiring inspection at docks, battery- charging areas, small-parts areas, mezzanines, in the main warehouse, and in the maintenance area have been specified. There may be particular items that were not listed but require inspecting on a regular basis. There was no way that this list could be complete.
