Whiteware Pottery and Vitreous Enamel

Slaked lime is sometimes blended with the kaolin and ball clays used in the production of whiteware pottery. It helps to bind the materials and also increases the whiteness of the fired product [32.4]. 

The fluxing and glass-forming properties of lime are exploited in various formulations for vitreous enamel.
