When Not To Call a Meeting

Interestingly, and perhaps this is the cause of meeting problems, there seem to be more reasons not to call a meeting than to call a meeting. Consider the following three reasons not to call a meeting (Walesh 2000b)  

Your mind is made up but you want others to think you are seeking their input  

While you know what needs to be done, you are reluetant to take full responsibility. Therefore, you call a meeting, indicate what should be done, obtain formal approval or informal acquiescence, and then you can spread the blame if needed while taking all the credit if the decision is correct. 

You don t know what needs to be done but you have the necessary responsibility and authority. However, you want somebody else to make the decision.
