When Heavy Chemicals Were the Frontier

Very few people were ready to act on George Davis vision of a discipline of chemical engineering, either in 1887 or in 1901. It fit no university curriculum of that time. But it did not go unnoticed in the United States, where there were others who were calling themselves chemical engineers and there were university curricula called chemical engineering. Just how the name gained currency is not yet clear, but it is certain that the Journal
