The main differences between metallomesogens and organic liquid crystals are (i) an increase in electric anisotropy because of the high polarizability of metals  

There has been a series of previous reviews on metallomesogens [3, 4] and even a book [5]. There is a also specific review of gold mesogens, published in 1999 [6].
