In addition to how the FMCSRs apply to intrastate operations in each state, states may have other requirements for all vehicles. These reqmrements may include accident reporting procedures and vehicle size and weight limitations. 

The task is defined by a brief requirement specification of a technical system, typically some kind of vehicle, where the expected performance is described together with consttaints, in terms of cost, size, weight, power supply, or other factors. The idea is that the requirements are very clearly specified early in the course but the approach to the task is by no means obvious. How the final product will come out is still very open. A shared site is used for documentation and information sharing within the project. In this way, all information is continuously updated and always available within the project group. An open website also enables interested people outside the project group to monitor the progress of the woik. 

Example 15-1 Determine the pressure gradient (in psi/ft) required to transport a slurry at 300 gpm through a 4 in. sch 40 pipeline. The slurry contains 50% (by weight) solids (SG = 2.5) in water. The slurry contains a bimodal particle size distribution, with half the particles below 100 pm and the other half about 2000 gm. The suspension of fines is stable and constitutes a pseudohomogeneous non-Newtonian vehicle in which the larger particles are suspended. Another desirable physical property is high propellant density. One requirement for high propellant density has already been noted in the discussion of performance (Isd) requirements. The density of the propellant controls the size of the propellant tankage. Even in systems in which the volume of the vehicle is not critical, the smaller tankage results in a reduction in structural weight and aerodynamic drag of the vehicle.
