Warnings for Mixtures

Mixtures, having been shown to produce unanticipated effects upon exposure, require particular warning attention. Clearly, it is impossible to anticipate all the mixtures that will be formed when a single chemical is distributed. However, it is possible to reasonably anticipate many of these. For example, ketones potentiate the neurotoxic effects of hexane. I19 These solvents are commonly mixed together in adhesives. A proper warning for a ketone, hexane, or an adhesive containing both of these solvents would include what is known about the potentiating effect. [Pg.576]

Many products are mixtures. Where the combined effects of the components of the mixture are unknown, a complete list of all compounds contained in the product would enable one to decide whether or not to risk exposure to a cleaner, for example, that contains multiple lipophilic and hydrophilic species. [Pg.576]
