We know how to make electricity from sunlight. We can do that very effectively with silicon solar panels, larger versions of the solar cell on your calculator. Chemists (including your uncle at Portland State University, Carl Wamser) and other scientists have been working hard to develop new kinds of dye-sensitized solar cells for electricity production, which could be even cheaper to produce and to use.
