Volvariella volvacea

Leucocoprinus badhamii and Volvariella volvacea, 47 was the major metabolite. Arsenocholine (55) and the tetramethylarsonium ion (53) were present in a few species, generally in low concentrations. Arsenobetaine (54) was the main compound in Sparassis crispa [123]. 

Mushroom cultivation was originaiiy an outdoor activity dependent on seasonai conditions Substrates were prepared and spawned when outside temperatures and humidity were favorabie. This is still the case with many smaii scale growers of Volvariella volvacea, Siropharia rugoso-annulata and Lentinus edodes. 

Volvariella volvacea is primarily grown in the Orient and is a warmth loving mushroom.

Padi Straw Mushroom (Volvariella volvaceae)—Most of this crop is produced in the Orient, where it is grown on rice (paddy) straw. These mushrooms are usually sold in the dried form. 

LATIN ROOT Volvariella is the conjunction of two words volvatus which means having a volva or cup-like sheath and the suffix -ellus denoting smallness in size. The species name volvacea shares the same root as the genus.
