Viscosity average relative molecular mass

If a polymer molecule in solution behaves as a random coil, its average end-to-end distance is proportional to the square root of its extended chain length (see page 25) - i.e. proportional to Ai 5, where Mr is the relative molecular mass. The average solvated volume of the polymer molecule is, therefore, proportional to M 5 and, since the unsolvated volume is proportional to A/r, the average solvation factor is proportional to (i.e. Af 5). The intrinsic viscosity of... [Pg.251]

This test method covers the estimation of the mean molecular tveight (relative molecular mass) of petroleum oils from kinematic viscosity measurements at 100 and 210 F (37.78 and 98.89°C). It is applicable to samples with molecular weights in the range from 250 to 700 and is intended for use with average petroleum fractions. It should not be applied indiscriminately to oils that represent extremes of composition or possess an exceptionally narrow molecular weight (relative molecular mass) range. [Pg.361]
