In previous studies, i,e. concurrent carbonyl-oxygen exchange in the hydrolysis of esters, acid hydrolysis of orthoesters and oxidation of acetals by ozone, the configuration of the tetrahedral intermediate was determined by the application of the principle of stereoelectronic control.
