The most important of the methods of synthesis of C-vinylpyrroles is direct introduction of the vinyl group into pyrrole and indole rings by addition of pyrrole or indole to alkynes or substitution reactions at the double bond. Such processes preclude the need for a prior functionalization step, making the overall chemical transformations highly effective. 

Another repetitive method is the introduction of two vinyl groups into an x./3-unsaturated cyclic fi-oxo ester, demonstrated by the synthesis of 22. starting from the unsaturated ester 21 which can be subjected to the same procedure942. 

The introduction of a vinyl group into the benzenoid ring of cardanol to impart triple functionality, consisting of the vinylic double bond, the hydroxyl group and the unsaturated side chain has been effected from the 6-formyl derivative of cardanol (ref. 264). 

Monomers of metal complexes/chelates suitable for polymerizations, and also polycondensations or polyaddition reactions, can be employed successfully for the preparation of metal containing polymers.
