Very high strength

Anaerobic Filter. The anaerobic filter is similar to a trickling filter ia that a biofilm is generated on media. The bed is fully submerged and can be operated either upflow or downflow. For very high strength wastewaters, a recycle can be employed. [Pg.191]

The Inco flash smelting process produces a very high strength sulfur dioxide gas by using pure oxygen for smelting. Liquid sulfur dioxide is obtained upon compression. [Pg.201]

For corrosion resistance, these steels (18% nickel, 9% cobalt, 3% molybdenum, 0.2% titanium and 0.02% carbon) are similar to the 13% chromium steels and, therefore, are suitable for mildly corrosive situations. Because of their very high strength after heat treatment (yield strength—1390 N/mm, elongation—15%, impact strength) maraging steels find some use in a very high-pressure equipment. [Pg.73]

Naturally, fibers and whiskers are of little use unless they are bonded together to take the form of a structural element that can carry loads. The binder material is usually called a matrix (not to be confused with the mathematical concept of a matrix). The purpose of the matrix is manifold support of the fibers or whiskers, protection of the fibers or whiskers, stress transfer between broken fibers or whiskers, etc. Typically, the matrix is of considerably lower density, stiffness, and strength than the fibers or whiskers. However, the combination of fibers or whiskers and a matrix can have very high strength and stiffness, yet still have low density. Matrix materials can be polymers, metals, ceramics, or carbon. The cost of each matrix escalates in that order as does the temperature resistance. [Pg.5]

In [332] it was noted that the strength of samples cut out at different locations of an article made from filled thermoplastics by pressure molding may differ widely — which is due to the non uniform orientation of the polymer at different locations of the mold. The very high strength parameters of composites with PMF in molded specimens are obviously also due to orientation effects, while for standard mixed samples of similar composition (that is, a matrix which, apart from the filler, contains some superhigh molecular polyethylene imitating the PMF coats) the... [Pg.50]

Silica powder has been studied as a stabilizer for oil well cement at high temperatures [1895]. Tests indicated that silica powder can improve the stability and pressure resistance strength of cement. The manufacture of very-high-strength concrete (after 28 days the compressive strength is greater than... [Pg.132]
