A,/a . The expression n sin a can be called the numerical aperture of the diffracted beam of first order which, for microscopes, is identical to the numerical aperture A - of the objective lens. The numerical aperture of a lens is the product of the refractive index of the medium in front of the objective and of the sine of half of the angle whose vertex is located on the optical axis and being the starting point of a light cone of angle a which is just collected by the lens. 

An inequality constraint with Ajt > 0 can be removed only if the working point is in a vertex and if its matrix row index is greater than a constraint with Xj < 0. 

The reason behind the first point should be clear if a constraint with Aj < 0 is removed, all the constraints subsequently inserted into the matrix are not necessarily roof constraints even though they have A > 0 at the working vertex, since their insertions were conditioned by the existing constraints with Aj < 0 they are, however, replaced by artificial constraints and therefore the number of iterations to achieve a new vertex does not increase. Conversely, the constraints with a matrix row index smaller than the first constraint removed are reasonably... 

It is characteristic of all points of a-lines that the liquid-vapor tie-hnes in these points are directed along the straight lines passing through that vertex of the concentration triangle, the number of which is missing in the index of a-line.
