Vacuum Science and Engineering, C.M. Van Atta, McGraw-Hill Book Company 1965 by McGraw-Hill, Inc. Like his other book The Design of High Vacuum Systems and the Application of Kinney High Vacuum Pumps, this book is full of clear information. 

When designing a pressurized pipe system, the pipe selected must hold the internal pressure safely and continuously. In a non-pressurized system such as a gravity flow sewer, pipe selection depends on other factors. Vacuum piping systems must use a pipe that resists collapse. The design engineer will use different design criteria and calculations for each type of installation.

Custom pipe is custom engineered and custom fabricated for the particular corrosive environment and mechanical and thermal loading. Essential design variables considered during the design of custom pipe are pressure, vacuum, peak temperature, differential temperature, coefficients of expansion, support span, burial conditions (for underground pipe), liner thickness, and resin system(s).
