In the Synapt, the MALDI ions are generated at a fine vacuum of about 0.1 mbar and transferred via a hexapole ion guide into a stepwave ion guide. The choice of vacuum forming machine will depend upon how extensive a range of products are to be produced, but if it is decided to invest in a size of machine somewhat larger than the one immediately required, then many machines have adjustable frames and zoned heaters to enable smaller items to be accommodated or one can, with better advantage, plan to produce on a two or more impression mould.
