Usui process

In the Usui process for producing tapered pipes, the glass fibre reinforcement is wound round a tapered mandrel to make a preform. This is inserted into the mould in the centrifugal machine and the mandrel removed. Resin is poured in and the mold tilted to a pre-determined angle and then rotated until the resin has cured. 

Displacement-purge forms the basis for most simulated continuous countercurrent systems (see hereafter) such as the UOP Sorbex processes. UOP has licensed close to one hundred Sorbex units for its family of processes Parex to separate p-xylene from C3 aromatics, Molex tor /i-paraffin from branched and cyclic hydrocarbons, Olex for olefins from paraffin, Sarex for fruc tose from dextrose plus polysaccharides, Cymex forp- or m-cymene from cymene isomers, and Cresex for p- or m-cresol from cresol isomers. Toray Industries Aromax process is another for the production of p-xylene [Otani, Chem. Eng., 80(9), 106-107, (1973)]. Illinois Water Treatment [Making Wave.s in Liquid Processing, Illinois Water Treatment Company, IWT Adsep System, Rockford, IL, 6(1), (1984)] and Mitsubishi [Ishikawa, Tanabe, and Usui, U.S. Patent 4,182,633 (1980)] have also commercialized displacement-purge processes for the separation of fructose from dextrose.

Exploring different methods for the intramolecular radical cyclization of 78 (Scheme 15)95, Usui and Paquette observed that (TMS SiH under normal conditions affords the expected functionalized diquinane 79 in 80% yield and in a a fi ratio of 82 18. MM2 calculations suggest it is the result of a kinetic controlled process. It is worth mentioning that the endothermic reaction 42 is expected to be one of the propagation steps in this chain process (vide infra). By replacing the silane with tin hydride under similar experimental conditions, the unexpected product 80 was obtained in a 77% yield.

The interpretation of the attachment process during flotation of small particles in terms of the heterocoagulation theory, as suggested by Derjaguin Dukhin (1960), has been considered in a number of review articles on the theory of flotation (Joy Robinson 1964, Usui 1972, Rao 1974) and was further confirmed in many studies (Derjaguin Shukakidse 1961, Jaycock Ottewil 1963, Rubin Lackay 1968, Devivo Karger 1970, Collins Jameson 1977).
