Using the Kofler hotbench

To determine the gel time, place a small amount of resin at the chosen temperature as indicated by the test pointer and measure the time taken for the resin to go stringy. 

This gel time equipment made by Shyodu is a low torque synchronous motor to which a specially shaped stirrer is attached. The resin mix is placed in a throw away paper cup and the stirrer placed in position. The timer is started and then stopped when the motor stalls due to gelation occurring as the viscous drag exceeds the motor torque. Care must be taken to ensure that the paper cup is not coated with a wax that will inhibit the cure.
