Use or performance properties

Most of the use properties have to do with comfort or with the retention of desired properties (colour, shape, appearance, etc.). Also this category of properties is much more dependent on added properties than on the intrinsic ones. Again, the correlations are of a complex nature and are qualitative rather than quantitative. Table 27.2 shows the interdependence. In the following, the use properties will be discussed in some detail. [Pg.877]

Thermal comfort exists if the human body is in thermal equilibrium with its environment, implying a constant temperature of the body. Comfort is mainly determined by the construction of a garment, in particular by its thermal insulation and by moisture transfer. [Pg.877]

This means that - save in exceptional circumstances - the nature of the textile fibre is less material than the fabric construction. [Pg.878]

Heat insulation is mainly determined by the construction of the fabric, is proportional to its thickness, and decreases with increasing air velocity (wind). [Pg.878]
