Urination disorders

Traditional use The plant has a long history of use in folk medicine. Preparations were used as a cancer remedy. A deco-cotion of the upper plant parts (capitula and leaves) is used to treat constipation, jaundice, Uver diseases, hypochondria, respiratory tract catarrh, intermittent fever, gastrointestinal atonia, gout, ulcers, kidney diseases, urination disorders, and indigestion and is also used as an emetic (Ogolevitz 1951 Khalmatov et al. 1984 Khodzhimatov 1989). [Pg.73]

The presence of the pyrrolidine, morpholine, cyclohexane, piperidine, or aza-cycloheptane moiety in the 1-position of imidazo[l,5-a]quinoxalin -ones, along with amide groups in the 7(8)-position, leads to inhibition of phosphodiesterase 9 (PDE9) therefore, such compounds are used for developing dmgs that eliminate urination disorders (Okada et al. 2009 Kaizawa et al. 2011). [Pg.257]

Disorder characterized by an inability to concentrate urine in response to vasopressin due to mutations in the vasopressin V2 receptor gene or the AQP2 gene. [Pg.381]

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection caused by pathogenic microorganisms of one or more structures of the urinary tract. The most common structure affected is the bladder, with the urethra, prostate, and kidney also affected (see Pig. 47-1). Display 47-1 identifies the disorder most frequently associated with each of these structures within the urinary system. Clinical manifestations of a UTI of the bladder (cystitis) include urgency, frequency, burning and pain on urination, and pain caused by spasm in the region of the bladder and the suprapubic area. [Pg.456]

The catabolism of leucine, valine, and isoleucine presents many analogies to fatty acid catabolism. Metabolic disorders of branched-chain amino acid catabolism include hypervalinemia, maple syrup urine disease, intermittent branched-chain ketonuria, isovaleric acidemia, and methylmalonic aciduria. [Pg.262]

Unrecognized pregnancy remains the most common cause of amenorrhea, and a urine pregnancy test should be one of the first steps in the evaluation of this disorder. [Pg.751]

O Unrecognized pregnancy remains the most common cause of amenorrhea, and a urine pregnancy test should be one of the first steps in the evaluation of this disorder. To help organize an approach to diagnosis and treatment, it is helpful to consider the organs involved in the menstrual cycle, which include the uterus, ovaries, anterior pituitary, and hypothalamus. [Pg.752]

Mutations in the gene for adenylosuccinate lyase (ASL), inherited as an autosomal recessive disorder in purine metabolism, are associated with severe mental retardation and autistic behavior, but apparently not self-mutilation [10, 11]. This enzyme catalyzes two distinct reactions in the de novo biosynthesis of purines the cleavages of adenylosuccinate (S-Ado) and succinylaminoimidazole carboxamide ribotide (SAICAR), both of which accumulate in plasma, urine and cerebrospinal fluid of affected individuals [12]. Measurements of these metabolites in urine... [Pg.307]
