The entire molecular disposition of suramin does not appear to be essential for activity. It has been reported that the N,N -diphenylurea derivatives retain the biological activity to a large extent [2,6]. Consequently a number of N,N -diarylureas were evaluated for their antiprotozoal activity and as a result amicarbanilide (4), imi-docarb (5), nicarbazine [a complex formed from N,N -bis(4-nitrophenyl)urea (6) and 4,6-dimethyl-2-hydroxyprimidine (7)] and quinuronium sulphate (8) were found to exhibit high activity against babesiasis in domestic animals [2,7].
