Union Carbide gasifier

The Union Carbide Company Purox gasifier is an example of the oxygen system. This unit also uses a moving-bed reactor. Pure oxygen is the oxidizing agent used to convert the char into CO and CO2. Molten ash leaves the bottom at about 1670°C. 

Industrial gasification achievements by themselves have succeeded in upgrading munidpai wastes. Union Carbide s Purox process represents a typical technology in the field. Many developments have occurred with wood Table 1.6 provides an idea of the dry gas compositions obtained, which vary with the type of gasifier and the feedstock. 

Table VII presents the estimated investments. The methanol case investment reflects the same gasifier type as used for the IBG and SNG cases. A conceptual Chem Systems methanol synthesis step is used. EPRI is sponsoring the development of the Chem Systems technology (5 ). The ammonia case investment reflects the same wood gasification concepts, employs pressure swing adsorption for hydrogen gas purification (based on information provided by the Linde Division, Union Carbide Corporation), and uses a conventional high-pressure ammonia synthesis loop.
