Starting from the experience and the previous examples, four groups of urban wastewater can be proposed (Fig. 31). One group concerns the raw wastewater often characterised by the presence of shoulders at around 225 and 260-270 nm. The general spectrum is important, regularly decreasing, and a dilution of the sample is often needed in order to prevent absorbance saturation, particularly for short wavelengths.
