Types of asphalt production plants

All types of asphalt production plants consist of five distinct parts the cold aggregate feeder system, the dryer/heater, the dust collection system, the mixing system and the storage bins. The mixing system is basically the factor that determines their categorisation. [Pg.399]

In batch plants, the hot aggregates are stored in hot bins before mixing with bitumen in discrete batches in a pugmill (typically) mixer and then loaded onto trucks or transferred to a silo (or silos) for temporary storage. [Pg.399]

In drum-mix plants, the mixing of the aggregate and the bitumen takes place in the dryer/ heater drum, after which the asphalt is stored in a silo (or silos) before being loaded into delivery trucks. [Pg.399]
