Tungsten pentabromide

Tungsten pentabromide [13470-11-6], WBr5, violet-brown crystals having an mp of 276°C and a bp of 333°C, is extremely sensitive to moisture. It is prepared by the action of bromine vapor on tungsten at 450—500°C (16). 

Tungsten Pentabromid e, WBrj, is best prepared by passing a current of bromine vapour, which may be diluted with carbon dioxide but must be entirely free from air and moisture, over tungsten at a red heat by heating the hexacliloride at 300 C. in dry hydrogen bromide a less pure product results.
