Tubuloreticular structures (TRS) are the second major membrane assembly that has been frequently associated with the occurrence, as well as the origin, of cubic membranes. Indeed membrane assemblies that are now characterised as cubic membranes, have often been described as being similar to TRS. More specifically, undulating membranous structures (UMS) have often been interpreted as TRS-like structures. This is despite the fact that TRS are irregular membranous arrangements with no obvious symmetry, having a typical appearance shown in Fig. 7.25. Unfortunately, we are not aware of any study of TRS in which serial sections have been prepared. [Pg.314]
