TSA

Drying. The single most common gas phase appHcation for TSA is drying. The natural gas, chemical, and cryogenics industries all use zeoHtes, siHca gel, and activated alurnina to dry streams. Adsorbents ate even found in mufflers. [Pg.280]

Other Separations. Other TSA appHcations range from CO2 removal to hydrocarbon separations, and include removal of air poUutants and odors, and purification of streams containing HCl and boron compounds. Because of their high selectivity for CO2 and their abiHty to dry concurrently,... [Pg.280]

The removal of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from air is most often accompHshed by TSA. Air streams needing treatment can be found in most chemical and manufacturing plants, especially those using solvents. At concentrations from 500 to 15,000 ppm, recovery of the VOC from steam used to regenerate activated carbon adsorbent thermally is economically justified. Concentrations above 15,000 ppm ate typically in the explosive range and... [Pg.280]

Figure 16-49 [Engineering Data Book, 10th ed., Gas Processors Slippers Association, Tulsa, 1988, Sec. 20, p. 22] depicts the flow scheme for a typical two-bed TSA dryer system showing the auxiliary equipment associated with regeneration. Some of the diy product gas is externally heated and used couutercurreutly to heat and desorb water from the adsorber not currently drying feed. The wet, spent regeneration gas is cooled the water is condensed out and the gas is recycled to feed for recovery. A synthesis of 2-alkyl-2,3-dihydro-y-pyrones (187) from methoxybutenyne and aldehydes has been described (83TL4551). The condensation of lithiomethoxy-butenyne (184) with aldehydes at -78°C leads to the secondary alcohols 185, which form the dihydropyrones 187 via hydration of the acetylenic bond and hydrolysis of the methoxyethenyl group to the ketoenol 186 (0°C, p-TSA, THF, H2O or 30% HCIO4, 20 min) folowed by intramolecular cycloaddition. [Pg.206]
