Frederick Thomas Trouton (1863-1922). Irish experimental physicist. Trouton was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1897 and served as the Quain Professor of Physics at University College London from 1902-1914. [Pg.437]

This ratio of the standard vaporization enthalpy Ay pH° to the normal boiling temperature (at 1 bar), that is, the standard vaporization entropy AvapS , is called Trouton s constant Frederick Trouton, see box). Table 3.1.4 indicates that the values of AvapS are in the range 70-110 Jmol K , and we can use 90 J mol as a... [Pg.50]

Frederick Thomas Trouton (1863-1922) An Irish engineer and physicist. In 1883 he discovered Trouton s rule, Eq. (3.1.46). He also worked on osmotic pressure, adsorption, and rheology. More details on his life and work are given in a recent publication ofWisniak (2000). [Pg.50]

It is used where no heat of transformation data exists or can be readily found. For polar Uquids, the value increases while for non-polar liquids, the value decreases. It should not be used for highly polar or non-polar molecules. It is named after Irish physicist Frederick Thomas Trouton (1863-1922). [Pg.386]
