Tris halides

According to F. C. Franklin and C. A. Kraus,40 liquid ammonia readily dissolves sodium and potassium iodides. The partial press, of ammonia in soln. of potassium iodide at 25°, as measured by R. Abegg and H. Riesenfeld, is raised from 13 45 mm. of water to 13 28, and 14 88 mm. for 0 5W-, N-, and l 5Ar-soln. respectively. H. M. Dawson and J. McCrae have shown that the distribution of ammonia between water and chloroform is generally lowered by the addition of various salts of the alkali metals and ammonium which they tried—halides, nitrates, chlorates, oxalates, sulphates, carbonates, hydroxides this means that the solvent power of aq. soln. of the alkali salts is in general less than that of pure water—lithium chloride, ammonium bromide, and sodium iodide act in the opposite way. The other halide salts of lithium were not tried. The change produced in the partition coeff. by the halides, at 20°, is as follows ... [Pg.607]

Chromic acid oxidation of 1- or 2-methylphenazine affords the corresponding carboxylic acids and oxidation with selenium dioxide gives the corresponding aldehydes.Alkoxyphenazi-nes are readily dealkylated using hydrobromic acid in acetic acid, or with aluminum tri-halides. Alkoxyphenazine A -oxides can be also dealkylated with aluminum trichloride in ethereal solution or aluminum tribromide in benzene. " ... [Pg.294]

The reduction of alkyl tellurium tri halides is a convenient method for the preparation of the corresponding dialkyl ditellurium when the trihalides can be obtained by reactions other than the halogenolysis of the dialkyl ditellurium. Addition of tellurium tetrachloride to olefins and condensation with ketones produces alkyl tellurium trichlorides. Sodium sulfide nonahydrate" and sodium or potassium disulfite were used as reducing agents. [Pg.265]

The fact that BF3 forms a wider range of complexes than the other tri-halides is probably due to a greater difficulty of heterolysis with the B—F bond than with the B—Cl and B—Br bonds. Thus molecules of the alcohols, aldehydes and ketones, which form addition compounds with BF3, break the boron-halogen bonds in the other halides ... [Pg.270]
