Triethyl tetramine

Reactive polyamides resins are produced by reacting dimer acid with a slight excess of polyamines (diethyl triamine and triethyl tetramine) to produce low-molecular-weight polyamide resins having free amino groups in the chain (Kale et al., 1994). 

B. Specific drugs and antidotes. BAL (dimercaprol see p 413) and penicillamine (see p 484) are effective chelating agents and should be used in seriously ill patients with large ingestions. Triethyl tetramine dihydrochloride (Trien or Cuprid) is a specific copper chelator approved for use in Wilson s disease although it is better tolerated than penicillamine, its role in acute ingestion or chronic environmental exposure has not been established.

In mole fraction at 4.5 °C 0.605 in triethylenetetramine, 0.588 in triactyl trimethyl triethylene tetramine, 0.578 in hexamethylenediamine, 0.369 in A,A-dimethylacetamide, 0.297 in A-methyl-acetamide, 0.109 in adiponitrile, 0.114 in sebaconitrile, 0.188 in ethylene glycol, 0.390 in triethyl phosphate (Copley et al, 1941). Miscible in many alcohols including ethanol, propanol, butanol, and pentanol. 

Note As might be expected, this is a rare type of synthesis. During the preparation of diethyl 2,6-dimethyl-3,5-pyridinedicarboxylate (49) from ethyl acetoacetate and hexamethylene tetramine, triethyl 2,7,8a-trimethyl-l,4,4a,5,8,8a-hexahydro-l,8-naphthyridine-3,6-dicarboxylate (51) was isolated in 2% yield it appears to have arisen from addition of the intermediate (50) to the 2,3-bond of the main product (49).1147...
