In the case of Co2(CO)8 interaction, it has been clearly established5,6 that complete reaction takes place by a two-step inter- University of Oklahoma, Norman, Okla. 73069. 

The second step results in the generation of hydrogen gas and the formation of another molecule of R3SiCo(CO)4  

The cobalt-silicon compounds described here undergo reactions with protonic molecules such as hydrogen chloride, Lewis bases such as trimethylamine, and oxidizing agents.
