16 TRACS vehicle for pavement surface condition evaluation 

The TRACS survey vehicle measures (Highways Agency 2008b) the following  

All data collected by the TRACS survey vehicle are referenced to the network sections to a longitudinal accuracy of 1 m, processed by specially designed software and fed, if required, to HAPMS. 

The pavement surface condition is assessed in terms of riding quality, rut depth, texture depth and surface cracking, and, if hot rolled asphalt surfacing, fretting. 

The assessment of ride quality or profile unevenness is carried out using three Enhanced Longitudinal Profile Variance values that indicate the level of profile unevenness within wavelength ranges less than or equal to 3, 10 and 30 m.
