Track Dither

This plug-in is referenced in the Help file but did not install with Build 189 of ACID 3.0. From the screen shot in the Help, it appears that the Track Dither plug-in is identical to the Sonic Foundry Dither plug-in.

Select the bit-depth that you are converting to with the Quantization depth control. For example, if you are converting an audio track fi m 24 bit to 16 bit for an audio CD, you d set the Quantization depth to 16 bit (default). Dithering is more important when down converting to 8 bit. 

Dithering should be done on individual tracks if only some tracks will be down converted, bnt it is more typically nsed on the entire project as the very last plug-in, especially when down converting for the Internet. You should definitely avoid using Dither twice, both at the track and the project level. 

To keep the aperture near the sample and to track the sample topography, shear force feedback is commonly employed. In this method, a straight fiber probe with its long axis perpendicular to the substrate is oscillated (or dithered ) by a piezoelectric device such that the aperture moves side to side.
