TOPO (trioctylphosphine oxide), a compound that forms hydrogen bonds, is also used for carboxyhc acids pertraction (Fig. 3.7). The pertraction efficiency of carboxyhc acids of different polarities is strongly influenced by the content of the carrier in the membrane [30].

In Ref. [66], the complex [Eu(DNM)3(TOPO)2] (DNM dinaphtho)dmethane, TOPO trioctylphosphine oxide) was incorporated in nanoparticles (20-20 nm) prepared from alkylalkoxysilanes and PMMA. Photoluminescence and decay lifetimes were observed to be dependent on the temperature in the range of 20-45 °C.
