Tissue-turnover time calculation

During normal circumstances the weight of the thyroid remains constant in adulthood, with a slow decrease in the senium. Within this time, cell turnover is very rare only about five divisions per cell during adulthood have been calculated (Coclet et al. 1989). For this reason only a few mitotic cells are found in vivo they may be due to the compensation of cell death and tissue repair (Rognoni et al. 1987). [Pg.676]
