In most cases branches higher in the modular hierarchy (secondary and above) are very similar to those subtending them, differing primarily in a gradual diminution of size with each successive module, but without differentiation of shape or abrupt discontinuities. It therefore might be more accurate to regard such levels of the hierarchy as further levels of secondary modules, rather than tertiary or quaternary modules.
