Thorium chloride

Several methods are available for producing thorium metal it can be obtained by reducing thorium oxide with calcium, by electrolysis of anhydrous thorium chloride in a fused mixture of sodium and potassium chlorides, by calcium reduction of thorium tetrachloride mixed with... [Pg.174]

Complex ions of Th(IV) have been studied and include M2 ThClg] [21493-66-3] where M = Li—Cs, (CH2)4N, or (C2H ) N. Under more extreme conditions, eg, molten KCl or vapor phase, ThCL [51340-85-3] ThCh [51340-84-2] ThCl g [53565-25-6] and ThCh are known to be important. Additional information on thorium chlorides can be found in the Hterature (81). [Pg.41]

The last reaction is the most favored of these three. The actual occurrence of the reactions with elemental phosphorus or phosphorous trichloride as products has been explained to be due to kinetic reasons. The thorium present in the ore volatilizes in the form of thorium tetrachloride (ThCl4) vapor other metallic impurities such as iron, chromium, aluminum, and titanium also form chlorides and vaporize. The product obtained after chlorination at 900 °C is virtually free from thorium chloride and phosphorous compounds, and also from the metals iron, aluminum, chromium, and titanium. [Pg.408]

Thorium carbides, 24 761, 4 689—690 Thorium carbonate, 24 765 Thorium carboxylates, 24 768-769 Thorium chlorides, 24 762-763 Thorium complexes allyl, 24 773... [Pg.947]

Muller et al. 1975). Pavlovskaia et al. (1974a) determined that the excretion of intratracheally-administered thorium-228 (as thorium dioxide or thorium chloride) in the feces occurred in two phases in the rat in the first phase, up to 60% of the thorium-228 contained in the body was eliminated, and in the second phase, the rate of thorium-228 excretion in the feces averaged 0.25% of the body burden daily. [Pg.61]

Thorium Pyrovanadate, Th2V207.6H20, is greenish-yellow, and is obtained by the action of thorium chloride in dilute solution on ammonium metavanadate.1... [Pg.70]

Thorium Molybdate, Th(Mo04)2, is obtained by fusing partly dehydrated thorium chloride with excess of anhydrous sodium molybdate. It pelds tetragonal crystals, with axial ratio... [Pg.154]

Krylov and Chukhlantsev [57KRY/CHU] prepared thorium selenite at 323 K by adding a concentrated solution of selenious acid to a I M solution of thorium chloride. The precipitate was aged for several days in the mother liquor at this temperature, then separated and dried at 373 K. Chemical analysis confirmed the 1 2 ratio between Th and Se(lV) and the specimen was anhydrous. No X-ray diffraction measurements were performed. [Pg.391]

ThOClj is formed when hydrated thorium chloride. is halted to 250°. It is also formed when carlton tr.tnirhlnriilc begins to art U Km hut ThO. It is very hygroscopic and dissolves in water without dmimiiusition. [Pg.192]
