Thomson, Joseph John and Thomson, George Paget were father and son. Rutherford was J.J. Thomson s student at Cambridge. J.J. Thomson discovered the electron in 1897 and won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1906. G.P. Thomson won the Nobel Prize in 1937 together with Davisson he died in 1976 (hom 1892). So, the father proved that electrons were particles and the son proved they were waves. [Pg.49]
