Aunt Julie s mother, Pennie, had a baby by Tom Burch who was named Ellen. Pennie had another baby by George Dillon, a half-white man from near Wamerton. She had another baby after that by Sam Thompson, a black man. The last two children. Fleet Dillon and Jack Thompson, were bom after the Surrender. You will recall Pennie Brock, who lived across the river up near the Mississippi state line. She had Aunt Julie, called Julie Brock, by Perry, a white Overseer. She had Ellen by Tom Burch. She had Fleet Dillon by George Dillon, a half-white man and Jack Thompson by Sam Thompson, a black man. Jack Thompson was her last baby. The next to the last was Bailey Miller, who was born to her by Lewis Miller. [Pg.156]

Janie Miller married a Jack Thompson, who was the son of Aunt Julie Brock s mother, Pennie, by Sam Thompson. It is interesting here to recall that Jerome Wilson, Isom s grandson, was lynched by a mob that included a colored Thompson, who was the son to Jack. [Pg.158]
