Thioureas Benzylisothiocyanate. dl-Threonine Benzylamine. Mercuric acetate. [Pg.1393]

In the domino Michael/alkylation reaction applied to the synthesis of 3-(2H)-furanones, the ethyl 4-bromoacetoacetate 203 and nitrostyrene 204 were first trialed with a range of catalysts. In this instance, the so-called modified Feist Binary reaction was completed with an I-threonine bifunctional tertiary amine/thiourea catalyst 205 to produce the furanone 206 in excellent yield and high enantioselec-tivity (Scheme 7.42) [107]. In another report, the furan ring as part of other bicyclic or tricyclic systems was also prepared through an enantioselective Michael addi-tion/nucleophilic substitution reaction (Scheme 7.43) [108]. When diketones and ( )-P,P-bromonitrostyrenes 207 were stirred, again with a bifunctional thiourea... [Pg.247]

A new catalyst incorporating chiral thiourea and nucleophilic Lewis base showed efficiency in the asymmetric BH reactions. The use of a binaphthyl-based amino-thiourea catalyst 63 synthesized by Wang et al. [ 114] resulted in good yields and enantioselectivities in the reaction of cyclohexenone and aldehydes. Another amino-thiourea 12 was demonstrated as an efficient bifunctional catalyst for the enantio-selective aza-BH reaction of (3-methyl-nitrostyrene and iV-tosyl-aldimines, affording P-nitro-y-enamines in modest to excellent enantioselectivities and diastereoselec-tivities (Scheme 9.32). It was found that no reaction occurred in the absence of the methyl group of nitroalkene [115]. A similar phophine-thiourea catalyst 64 was reported in 2008 by Wu and co-workers [116] and turned out to be efficient in the asymmetric BH reaction of MVK and aldehydes, providing fast reaction rate, good yields, and excellent enantioselectivities (87-94% ee). More recently, aL-threonine-derived phosphine-thiourea catalyst 65 was readily synthesized by Lu and coworkers [117] and applied in the enantioselective BH reaction of aryl aldehyde with methyl acrylate. [Pg.333]

L-Threonine-derived catalysts were demonstrated to be remarkably effective for the direct aldol reaction. Lu et al. investigated the potential of serine and threonine analogs in the direct asymmetric aldol reaction in aqueous medium [28]. While L-serine and L-threonine were found to be ineffective, sUylated threonine and serine derivatives were wonderful catalysts for the direct aldol reaction of cyclohexanone and aromatic aldehydes in the presence of water, affording the aldol adducts in excellent yields and with nearly perfect enantioselectivities. L-Serine-derived 9a was inferior to the corresponding threonine-based catalysts. The reaction could be extended to hydroxyacetone, and sy -diols were obtained with very good enantioselectivities (Scheme 3.6). Subsequently, Teo and coworkers also employed silylated serine catalysts for the same reaction [29]. Very recently, Cordova et al. [30] reported a co-catalyst system consisting of 8a and l,3-bis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]thiourea, and applied such catalytic pairs to the direct aldol reaction between ketones and aromatic aldehydes both cyclic and acycUc ketones were found to be suitable substrates. [Pg.58]
