Thiophene-2-thiol, reaction with acetate

The condensation of activated thiols onto adjacent nitriles is a common method for the preparation of amine-substituted thiophenes. A three component condensation was utilized to prepare a-aminothiophene 11 <00TL1597>. An alternate method for preparing amino-substituted thiophenes involved the treatment of ketene S,JV-acetal 12 with an activated carbonyl compound 13 which gave thiophene 14 <00JOC3690>. This type of reaction has also been utilized to prepare building blocks for the synthesis of fused thiophenes <00JHC363>. 

The reaction of alkenyl thiophenes with sulfur, or the reaction of ethyl 2-thenoyI acetate with P2S5, leads to thienylsubstituted 1,2-di-thiole-3-thiones. ... 

Thienylthioethanols were obtained in high yields by the reaction of thiophen-2-thiols with ethylene oxide.The reaction of 2,4-dinitro-3-bromothiophen with sodium dimethylthiocarbamate or sodium t-butyl-trithiocarbonate yielded (142). Decomposition of (142b) in glacial acetic acid led to a mixture of (143) and (144) in moderate yield. The reaction of thiophen-3,4-dithiol with phosgene chloride, followed by nitration, gave (145). The reaction of thiophen-2-thiol with p-(methylsulphonyl)bromo-benzene was used for the preparation of 2-thienyl p-(methylsulphonyl)phenyl sulphide.
